CURRICULUM

NPU strictly follows the curriculum set-forth by the Ontario ministry of education. All students must successfully complete 30 credits to receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) from a select category of courses, 40 hours of community involvement and the Ontario Secondary  School Literacy Test.

Students in grade 9 and 10 will follow a standard curriclum while grade 11 and 12 students may choose study profiles commensurate to their post-secondary goals.

Grade 7

Welcome to Grade 7! This year, students will dive into essential subjects that lay the groundwork for high school success. Our curriculum emphasizes English, Math, Science, French, Geography, and History, ensuring a well-reounded education. Get ready to explore new concepts and develop critical skills that will serve for years to come!  Students are encouraged to explore, take risks and broaden their knowledge and skillset.

Grade 10

As Grade 10 students continue their academic journey, they will contunue the core subjects such as English, Math, and Science. Additionally, they will explore Canadian History, Civics & Careers, and Healthy and Active Living. Students will also have the opportunity to choose Business Studies or various electives, allowing to tailor their education to their personal interests and future aspirations. This diverse curriculum is designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed for success in their academic journey.

Liberal Arts

Preparing for university involves a strong focus on English and a diverse range of subjects tailored to students' interests and chosen post-secondary pathways. Liberal arts students can delve into languages, psychology, history, philosophy, and other fields that spark their curiosity. It's important to note that the Ontario Curriculum still mandates a basic level of math, ensuring students maintain a well-rounded education. Additionally, students can keep their options open by continuing with advanced math studies.

Prerequisites: Grade 11 pre-university English and good academic standing.

Grade 8

As students approach their final year before high, it's essential to a strong understanding of core subjects. This year, students will delve deeper into English, Math, Science, Geography, and History, enhancing knowledge and skills. Additionally, it's highly recommended to prepare for high school math to sharpen the necessary skills for the next level which will solidufy the necessary skills for the challenging high school years ahead. 

Grade 11 | Business or Liberal Arts

Grade 11 students have the opportunity to choose between a Liberal Arts or Business stream. While Liberal Arts students are required to complete a basic level of Grade 11 math, they can explore a diverse range of subjects that align with their interests. On the other hand, Business students will focus on advanced math and specialized courses like marketing and entrepreneurship. In both streams, students are encouraged to select additional electives to foster a well-rounded education.

Prerequisites: Grade 10 advanced level math and  80%+ average.

Business & Law

Business students preparing for university will focus on essential courses like English, functions, and specialized subjects such as marketing and entrepreneurship. This targeted approach helps them cultivate skills that are directly applicable to their future careers. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to select from a variety of elective courses in line with the Ontario guidelines for graduation. This flexibility allows for a well-rounded education tailored to individual interests and goals.

Prerequisites: Grade 11 advanced level math and  80%+ average.

Grade 9

The inaugural year of high school is crucial for strengthening the foundations of core subjects. Students will engage in a diverse curriculum that includes English, Math, Science, French, Art, Entrepreneurial Mindset, Geography, and Family Living. This approach ensures that students develop a well-rounded education, preparing them for future academic challenges and personal growth.

Grade 11  | Science

Science students will concentrate on key courses like English, Functions, and Chemistry. Those aiming for Engineering and Computer Science will explore Physics, while aspiring health professionals will focus on Biology. It's important to note that academic level grade 10 math and science courses are prerequisites, and a minimum average of 80% (B) is highly recommended for applicants.

Prerequisites: Grade 11 advanced level math, science and  80%+ average.

Science

Welcome to our Science program! Here, students preparing for university will focus on essential courses such as English, Functions, and Chemistry. Engineering and Computer Science aspirants will delve into Physics, while those interested in health will focus on Biology. For the adventurous, there's the option to take all three science courses! This targeted approach not only cultivates skills applicable to future careers but also offers a variety of elective courses, ensuring a well-rounded tailored to individual interests and goals.

Prerequisites: Grade 11 advanced level math, related science courses and  80%+ average.
